It’s been a rather Swift year in the house of Hermes, what with that leather featuring on quite a number of H bags in this year’s production.
Imagine a heady aroma of gently toasted oak, calf skin that feels butter-smooth to the touch. Matte and fine-grained, Swift soaks in colour like a sponge.
Because of its softness, Swift is often misunderstood as a leather that is predisposed to scratches and can’t stand up to daily normal usage. I beg to differ. I don’t baby my Swift bags, and they have surprised me with their resilience. I even walk with them under a light shower (not recommended, but I had no choice!) Just dab off the raindrops with a tissue.
There’s only one scuff, between the two bags. It’s on the side of my Birkin, that’s not even noticeable till you hold the bag up to the light. And we’re talking about my workhorse that goes with me on public transportation
Of course, it’s not as tough as togo or clemence (and yes, Swift is slightly costlier by say 50euros, for a 30″ Birkin), but what you give up for sinewy ruggedness, you exponentially gain back in true tactile luxury.
Could you for example, imagine this Kelly Pochette in Clemence?
