Ashley and his H

I had the fab opportunity to come face to face with Ashley Isham two days ago.

Two things.

He was much taller than I imagined. Nice and unassuming. Though he’s made it big, he seems to be one who’d never forget his roots. He’s more than happy to make a meal out of dabao chicken rice on a makeshift table and stool.

The other point of (huge) interest is that he carries Hermes. He brought his gorgeous Beige Jypsiere with him. I complimented him on it, but alas, before I declare myself a fan of his gorgeous clothes. A social boo-boo, but I’m sure he didn’t think much of it.

From whatever little chatter we had, I gathered that he’s planning on a diffusion line boutique at the new Orchard ION some time this year. I love what I see of the Spring Summer ’09 collection. I loved what I saw last year. And I can’t wait to feast my eyes on the famed Blade Runner-inspired corset dress at the coming Audi Fashion Festival, that’s been getting eyeballs from the fashion insiders since its showing at the London Fashion Week. And for sure, I have to get something from his boutique one day.

Before you assume I was star-struck for the sake of it, I have been following him and Andrew Gn, Singapore boys who put this little red dot on the fashion map, for years, scouring the Internet for news of their progress. (Brownie point: Last year, whilst everyone else scrambled to get tickets for the other shows, Ashley’s was the only one on my must-see list.)

Ok, enough coo-ing from my end. Now’s your turn.

And yes, I will be reporting from the Christian Lacroix gala dinner. Wish me luck that I don’t trip over myself!
