I met Eliza to put the finishing touches of a feather fascinator into her hair. It was rather hilarious, as I also persuaded her into a pair of falsies (of the eyelash kind, not the booby kind, get your heads out of the gutter
) hiding out in a corner of a top-floor toilet at Ngee Ann City. They should have powder rooms, this place! Eliza looked really pretty I have to say. (Girl, promise me you’ll use those flutters again!)
Anyhooo, we met with Jenny in her cute and gorgeous one-shoulder dress with a bow. And off we went, coiffed and powdered and heeled. To the big white tent.
I think we must have been too early, even though it was 7pm as stated on the invite, for the ushers had mild panic on their faces as we approached the reception. And they were indeed still in the midst of setting up. We assured them we just wanted to pick up our invites and to know our table number, all of which were settled quickly and professionally. And of course, Eliza points out the obvious, that we should have been fashionably late.
So off we went for some pre-dinner drinks. After giving it the de rigueur 30 mins past opening time, we finally entered the white marquee.
It was lusciously dark inside, champers are being handed to us, and we were swept along by the current of beautiful people, some in long slinky flowy gowns. Models came out at the side, parading before the Audi cars, but that was almost a gratuitous side-show, for the real attention-grabber was the people. David Gan, in his signature cap (Hermes, I bet
and three-quart pants (!) were posing with some socialites. He just kind of stood in the middle, and the people just change around him. We also caught sight of Ms. Melwani with her gorgeous 25cm orange lizzie Birkin.

Horsing around!
All too soon, it was time to make it to our table. Ours was on a platform. Not a good thing actually, I had fears of drunkenly tripping down the stairs.
The dinner was catered by the St. Regis team, and they did a stellar job with the beef cheeks. I really wished I had a second serving. The mushroom cappucino was delicious, as was the tian of crabmeat. The courses were wine paired, which is absolutely to my palette

A classy jazz band played as we ate, and I did wish people clapped a bit more for them. The celebrity stylist Karen Ng was making her rounds at the table with Ashley Isham, who looked a little shy.
Sarah Ann of RazorTV came round to say hi, and I drunkenly agreed to be interviewed. I’m pretty sure they would edit me out haha. Had to run out to the toilet, which was in the main building (not cool). And who shall I see but Ashley. He did the high-bye, and he was really gracious and nice.

After the main courses were cleared away, it was time for the show. Charmaine Harn opened the show with a jacket and pants ensemble. Christian kept to his love for detailing such as intricate beading and silk ruffles and tulle. The beautiful red silk gown with rosettes, and beautiful draping. The colour swathes of silk swimming around the lithe bodies. And the topper, a gothic tulle gown, fit for Miss Havisham. I love the song they walked to, if anyone could point me to the artiste, I would be most grateful. Jacquetta Wheeler closed the show with a metallic duchess silk gown. The show closes, all too soon. Very nice. Though to be honest, I had anticipated longer, fuller and much more dramatic gowns.

Dessert was served. Which was very good. I made Jenny and Eliza promise to go to the after-party with me. The venue of which I had mistaken as The Helipad at Clarke Quay, so imagine our excitement when we found out that it was the actual helipad on the 73rd floor of the Swissotel.
Unadulterated 360 views all around, with no visible railings in sight. We were there barely 30mins when we were told we had to make it down to the 72nd floor, as a thunderstorm is approaching.
We stole our way to the New Asia Member’s Lounge, where a sighting of Gareth Pugh with his entourage, topped off a really, really fab night.
Hiao ah!

Who is that dude in the back!?! Jenny and I had no idea there was someone else in the picture besides us three. But apparently, Eliza did. Hmmm. And he did wink at her
