On a humid afternoon…

… I had pictures taken for Harper’s at Klee.

In my excitement (or anxiety), I had totally, totally forgotten to take fuzzy pics to remember the day by.

So I took some shots in retrospect. On another humid afternoon.

Love the last lights of the setting sun.

The shot was taken outside; Ken (the photog, not my husband) and Windy (stylist, an absolute sweetheart) had moved the couch outside. Those who know me would understand that I detest the heat and humidity, and sure enough, I was sweating buckets in no time. I really feel sorry for Jon (hair and make-up artist, fun and handsome one!) who had to so very often dab my face off.

So yes, watch out for Harper’s September issue and come to Klee (but not before making reservations, Tel: 6479 3997)

A Roman Indulgence with Fendi

Through the robin-blue papered corridor, past the bustling main dining hall, into a private room shadowed in seductive shades of black, and a view of the Singapore river that only the party of 20 well-heeled ladies were privy to.

It was the perfect setting for Harper’s Bazaar’s chic sit-down affair, ‘A Roman Indulgence with Fendi’, at the Forlino.

Warm warm greetings from Harper’s Natalie made for a nice start to the evening. As the sommelier ushered me to the said room, a glass of delicious dry champagne seemingly manifested out of thin air into my hand. I enter, and there is, how do I put it, a hushed elegance. An elegance that came from self-confidence, not crassness of money, nor self-aggrandizement. (No people, don’t read too much into this sentence

I caught a flash of a sexy patent red leather jacket, a fur dress, a crystal embellished tank, and some very sumptuous Peekaboo bags on display. I was also graciously shown by the SAs some very, very tempting confections…

A gorgeous marble table occupied the length of the room, on which place cards had our names and the evening’s menu. We had the pleasure of a Roman chef who did a first-rate job with the cuttlefish (so amazingly soft, am never a cuttlefish fan, but I polished off the entire plate that night), rack of lamb and the homemade pappardelle.

But what trulywas stunning were the ladies. Some of the ladies didn’t need introductions, the society mags already did that job for me, half of the remaining were doctors, and the remaining handful, well, let’s just say, I make the remaining handful

But I was in absolutely fab company, and I am not just being patronising. Ladies graciously came by to introduce themselves, and I felt at home in no time. We soon fell into tales of holidays, fashion, babies, husbands, world affairs (well, some), volunteer work; conversation was an amiable mix. Peppered with raucous jokes from the really personable Dr. T, who really made my night just great. The Harper’s editor Giselle Go held a rapt audience in me, Miranda and June, recounting for us her interview with Imelda Marcos. The 3-hour long event allowed us time to go beyond niceties, to personal anecdotes. At the end of the night, it was hard to imagine that just hours before, everyone was a stranger to me (save for Ms. J, whom I was grateful to meet!).

The Harper’s team did a beautiful job *pat pat*. It certainly was one of the loveliest events of the year.

Giuseppe Zanotti with Harper’s Bazaar (updated with reveal)

As if it couldn’t be more of a girl’s wonderland, the Giuseppe boutique at Palais Renaissance was littered with giant lollies and candied biscuits in bright cheery hues. But, the real bonbons in view were the Spring Summer 2009 sandals and heels.

Models with to-die-for gams trooped out in cut-out booties, and killer heels embellished with crystals. The people were fabulous and beautiful, the vibe was buzzing, we got style advice based on our shoe personalities. It was of course, another gorgeously put together Harper Bazaar’s event.

What in the world was I thinking not to have snapped a few pictures? It was probably the pretty heels at the corner, calling out to me. And so I brought it home! What’s a girl to do?

(Reveal update: 26March)

The braided flats I had been coveting for quite some time even before it reached the SG boutique had run out of my size, naturally. The boutique stocks only one pair per size, a smart strategy to ensure that you will rarely run into someone sporting the same pair of lovelies.

My plus-one had bailed last minute so I plenty of time to kill. The Giuseppe marketing lady asked me if I would like to take a polaroid with one of the SS09 pairs on. Of course! The nice SA serving me promptly produce a tan pair of flats with crystal embellishments. Very pretty. Ms. Shabnam very politely commented that it is a match made for my gold B. But to be honest, I only had eyes for this beauty:

Everyone also walked away with a free bottle of candy pink nail polish and a free Shape and Polish session at The Nail Room, Chip Bee Gardens. And a Giuseppe crystal-encrusted skull phone accessory (no way I can capture that nicely on my basic mobile phone camera).

All in all, a great night.
