Who needs an excuse when Herve Leger is on sale?

Before theoutnet.com, gilt.com is my go-to for luxe discounted apparel. And last night, they didn’t disappoint. Herve Leger was going for up to 70% off!

I was debating between these two. I settled for the more ‘sensible’, easier-to-wear one without the rose.med-3med-4

As of now, the Rosette Mini Colourblock Dress in M is still available. The entire batch is sold out save for two dresses. As I exited the site last night at 1.20am, already one third were sold out. The sale starts at 12pm American time, which is 12am Singapore time. Ends 13May, 12pm Singapore time. Go, go go!

It’s an invite-only site. You can use my invitation link here. And ship via comGateway, as gilt.com doesn’t ship to Singapore. Just don’t use vpost, I had nasty experiences with them.

I need a birthday dress, I really do. Since I didn’t get that birthday watch nor bag nor shoes. Haha, I just take whatever excuse I can get, eh.

Herve Leger boutique opening in Singapore

Or so the rumour goes.

I wonder who the holding group is. (Update: It’s Singapore’s first home-grown hedge fund company Ferrell Asset Management, which is venturing into the lifestyle sector, and will also be backing a flagship Thomas Wee boutique. Interesting! Yes, I say give ‘em all a run for their money! And I must say, I’m glad Thomas Wee is getting his due recognition at last.)

My dear SA Pinkie from Pois boutique had called me to tell me about new Herve arrivals. Then, I was just one week out from jaw surgery and could hardly make intelligible words with my swollen mouth.

The conversation went like this.

Pinkie: “Hi Carolina, have you worn your Herve yet?”

Swollen lips: “Oh, Phinkie, hmpfhtng, thankfprgm yorug. Loouve it.”

Pinkie: “Would also like to let you know that the new Spring-Summer Herve collection is in store.’

Swollen lips: “Grrreat, grrreat.”

Pinkie: “The new Spring colours are nice and colourful, come by one day. We are also stocking more sizes.”

Swollen lips: “Phgutmt, okjaay, pfhuneht. Bbbuhyee.”

As fab as the ladies at Pois boutique are, I am indeed hoping that the new Herve Leger boutique that’s opening this first quarter would bring more reasonable pricing. I do know for a fact retail here is marked up by about 40% (!!) from the US prices.

Then again, if it’s Club 21 behind this coming Herve venture, I’m sticking to Pois.

Lust List Revisited

1. Herve Leger dresses

hl

This is bandage (bondage?) at its sexiest. Borrowing from the Egyptian method of banding, Herve Leger is the Holy Grail of body-con dresses. I had the opportunity to be stuffed into one of these (thank you, thank you Pois ladies); you are banded to within an inch of your life, but you emerge slimmer and held in at all the right places.

One of the really nice ladies at Pois gave me a crash course. On the racks were Herve Leger and Herve L.Leroux. Herve Leger was bought out by the BCBG Max Azria Group in 1998 and since then, the brand sees Max Azria at its helm. Herve Leger himself still designs, but under the label of Herve L.Leroux, from his Saint Germain des Prés boutique. The banding is rather different. There’s a more couture feel to the Herve L.Leroux dresses, substantially thicker in material and tighter in fit, draping rather than banding; the Herve Leger ones have more obvious banding panels and are lighter and thinner in material.

You’ll be interested to know that BCBG carries some dresses with Herve Leger-like panels, but at just a fraction of the price.

2. Honda CrossRoad

crossroad13

This is on my hubby’s list. He’s trying to convince me that this seven-seater machine would allow us greater space and convenience in getting from one point to the other, which is home and Tanglin Mall, home and Toys ‘R Us basically.

The present CrossRoad is a re-introduction of a previous model, that was available to the Japan and US markets. It was also known as the Land Rover Discovery, but Honda’s relationship ended after Rover was taken over by BMW in 1984.

The present model is a mini SUV in automatic transmission, in a sleeker, tighter body. Dear, I’m not sure about this, but if you are paying, whatever floats your boat.

3. Blackberry Bold vs. Nokia E71

bbb

I know the BBB is on the lust list of (at least) three of my friends. I’m also seduced, by mere fact that it’s not a bloody touch phone, and of course, the Blackberry services. But what’s stopping me is its heftiness and the rather plasticky look to the screen, chrome & keyboard (ok, that’s all the surfaces).

The Nokia E71 is the other contender, and it supports Blackberry Connect. Could it be the sleeker, sophisticated (lesser?) cousin of the BBB? And well, reviewers seem to agree that the battery life holds up better than the BBB.

I’m definitely visiting M1 again this weekend.
